deafmute is a music group from Los Angeles lead by producer and songwriter j.franxis. There is little other information about the project to date. However, their debut track, 'Fortitude' instantly impresses, blending vibrato-doused electric guitars with polished electronic drums, sci-fi-inspired synth sounds and captivating vocals from Franxis as well as gorgeously husky guest vocals by Emily Kokal of Warpaint. The song deals with the fear and loneliness of human beings in a rapidly changing world and a feeling of insignificance in comparison to the wider universe in a beautifully soundtracked existential crisis. Such sentiments are reflected in the stunning Jeán Güsto directed video, as Güsto explains, “Creation was once just a collection of gasses and particles colliding violently into this dimension of existence that all humans are bound by.” Kokal appears alongside Franxis in the clip as the pair are seen exploring a desert-like landscape surrounded by stars and planets.
